NY Amp Show - Fractal Audio Axe-Fx 10.0 Firmware

PG's Shawn Hammond is On Location at the 2010 NY Amp Show where he visits the Fractal Audio and Atomic Amps room. In this segment, we get to check out some of their latest gear--the Axe-Fx Firmware 10.0 software updates, MFC-101 Foot Controller, and the Atomic Reator FR Cabinets. Audio Systems MFC-101 is an all-new MIDI foot controller. Designed for studio or stage use, the unit is housed in a high quality steel chassis (15.75" x 10" x 3.75"), and features a bright 20-character display, dual-color LEDs, plus 21 on-board switches for bank/preset selection, effect bypass, tap tempo, or any other function that can be controlled via midi. The MFC-101 supports four expression pedals and four switches via rear panel jacks, and an expansion port allows connecting a planned module to increase the onboard switch count to 43. Fractal Audio fans will enjoy a dedicated "Axe-Fx" mode, designed for seamless operation with the company's Standard or Ultra Tone/Effects processors. The Reactor FR Wedge is available in a powered and passive configuration. The powered wedge has a 50W power section with one 12AX7 and two EL-6L6GC vacuum tubes to deliver full-rated power over a full frequency response, with high headroom and very low distortion. Both the powered and the passive versions employ a high efficiency speaker system with a ported 12-ply marine grade birch plywood cabinet, a 12" speaker, a 1" tweeter/4" horn, and a crossover network.

We know Horsegirl as a band of musicians, but their friendships will always come before the music. From left to right: Nora Cheng, drummer Gigi Reece, and Penelope Lowenstein.

The Chicago-via-New York trio of best friends reinterpret the best bits of college-rock and ā€™90s indie on their new record, Phonetics On and On.

Horsegirl guitarists Nora Cheng and Penelope Lowenstein are back in their hometown of Chicago during winter break from New York University, where they share an apartment with drummer Gigi Reece. Theyā€™re both in the middle of writing papers. Cheng is working on one about Buckminster Fuller for a city planning class, and Lowenstein is untangling Austrian writer Ingeborg Bachmannā€™s short story, ā€œThree Paths to the Lake.ā€
