Gretsch 6120 Nashville up for grabs, proceeds benefit a children''s charity

Scottsdale, AZ (July 18, 2008) -  The Gretsch Company is teaming up with NASCAR racing star Kyle Petty to auction off a new Gretsch 6120 Nashville guitar signed by Petty to benefit a camp for critically ill children. The one-of-a-kind collector’s guitar will be on the eBay auction block for two more days. All proceeds will benefit the 14th Anniversary Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America, which raises funds for and awareness of Victory Junction Gang Camp and other children’s charities.

Kyle Petty and his wife Pattie founded Victory Junction in 2004 in honor of their son Adam with the mission of enriching the lives of children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses by creating camping experiences that are memorable, exciting, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound.

Surrounded by beautiful hardwood forests, Victory Junction Gang Camp is located in the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina. The Camp was built on 72 acres that were generously donated by Richard and Lynda Petty. Victory Junction Gang Camp has a racing theme with the sights, sounds, look and feel of a race track! The Camp is comprised of 44 buildings, including the Goody''s Body Shop medical center, the Hendrick Motorsports Fuel Stop dining hall, the Silver Theater, the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America water park, Adam''s Race Shop, the Michael Waltrip Operation Marathon Sportscenter, Jessie''s Horse Power Garage and much more!

The Victory Junction Gang Camp is a member of the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps. Actor Paul Newman started the first camp, the Hole in the Wall Gang, in 1988 and has been a driving force in the Association ever since.

Victory Junction Gang Camp operates solely on the donations of wonderful corporations, organizations and individuals. Children that attend Victory Junction would not otherwise be able to attend a camp because of their medical needs.

Victory Junction is a year-round camp that serves children, ages 7 to 15, with a variety of health issues. During the summer the camp offers week long disease-specific sessions with up to 125 kids per session. During the Fall, Winter and Spring we offer family weekends with up to 32 families per weekend.

Victory Junction now serves North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, with approximately 15% of campers coming from other parts of the country.

This rare English Tonemaster was made circa 1957.

The Valco-produced English Tonemaster is a rare, lap-steel-inspired gem from the 1950s—when genres and guitar design were fluid.

The 1950s were a peculiar time for the electric guitar. Innovators, designers, and tinkerers were pushing the boundaries of the instrument, while musicians were experimenting with various playing techniques and sounds. There was an evolution of sorts (or de-evolution, depending on your slant) from solidbody “sit-down” guitars, like pedal and lap steels, to “stand-up” or “upright” solidbody electrics. If you look at an early Fender catalog—let’s say from 1953—you’ll see the Telecaster (and Esquire), the Precision Bass, and then a whole bunch of steel guitars. There was a shift underway, and many manufacturers began to blur the lines of what a guitar should look, sound, and play like.
