Gretsch 6120 Kyle Petty Guitar Auction

Gretsch 6120 Nashville up for grabs, proceeds benefit a children''s charity

Scottsdale, AZ (July 18, 2008) -  The Gretsch Company is teaming up with NASCAR racing star Kyle Petty to auction off a new Gretsch 6120 Nashville guitar signed by Petty to benefit a camp for critically ill children. The one-of-a-kind collector’s guitar will be on the eBay auction block for two more days. All proceeds will benefit the 14th Anniversary Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America, which raises funds for and awareness of Victory Junction Gang Camp and other children’s charities.

Kyle Petty and his wife Pattie founded Victory Junction in 2004 in honor of their son Adam with the mission of enriching the lives of children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses by creating camping experiences that are memorable, exciting, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound.

Surrounded by beautiful hardwood forests, Victory Junction Gang Camp is located in the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina. The Camp was built on 72 acres that were generously donated by Richard and Lynda Petty. Victory Junction Gang Camp has a racing theme with the sights, sounds, look and feel of a race track! The Camp is comprised of 44 buildings, including the Goody''s Body Shop medical center, the Hendrick Motorsports Fuel Stop dining hall, the Silver Theater, the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America water park, Adam''s Race Shop, the Michael Waltrip Operation Marathon Sportscenter, Jessie''s Horse Power Garage and much more!

The Victory Junction Gang Camp is a member of the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps. Actor Paul Newman started the first camp, the Hole in the Wall Gang, in 1988 and has been a driving force in the Association ever since.

Victory Junction Gang Camp operates solely on the donations of wonderful corporations, organizations and individuals. Children that attend Victory Junction would not otherwise be able to attend a camp because of their medical needs.

Victory Junction is a year-round camp that serves children, ages 7 to 15, with a variety of health issues. During the summer the camp offers week long disease-specific sessions with up to 125 kids per session. During the Fall, Winter and Spring we offer family weekends with up to 32 families per weekend.

Victory Junction now serves North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, with approximately 15% of campers coming from other parts of the country.

The session ace’s signature model offers a wide range of tones at the flip of a switch … or five.

Hello and welcome back to Mod Garage. Not long ago, I came home late from a band rehearsal, still overly excited about the new songs we played. I got myself a coffee (I know, it's a crazy procedure to calm down) and turned on the TV. I ended up with an old Bonanza episode from the ’60s, the mother of all Western TV series. Hearing the theme after a long time instantly reminded me of the great Al Caiola, who is the prolific session guitarist who plays on the song. With him in mind, I looked up the ’60s Epiphone “Al Caiola” model and decided I want to talk about the Epiphone/Gibson Tone Expressor system that was used in this guitar.

Embracing the idea of an acoustic flattop made with anything other than wood can, understandably, be tricky stuff. There’s a lot of precedent for excellent-sounding acoustics built with alternative materials, though. Carbon-fiber flattops can sound amazing and I’ve been hooked by the sound and playability of Ovation and Adamas instruments many times.
