Graph Tech Guitar Labs has expanded its innovative Un-Lock Nut line with two new models designed specifically for 7-string electric guitars. The new Un-Lock Nuts replace traditional metal locking nuts with a pre-slotted, triple-lubricated Black TUSQ XL nut, eliminating the clamps, hex keys, added weight and everyday hassles associated with a conventional locking nut.
Designed for guitars equipped with double-locking tremolo systems, the 7-string Un-Lock Nut gives players excellent tuning stability while keeping the machine heads fully accessible. Players can tune normally, make quick tuning tweaks, and change a broken string quickly without unlocking clamps or reaching for an Allen key.
“Seven-string players often use different tunings and string gauges, so being able to tune at the machine heads and change strings quickly is a real advantage if they are using a tremolo stabilizer,” said Dave Dunwoodie, founder of Graph Tech Guitar Labs. “The Un-Lock Nut removes the unnecessary hardware and hassle at the headstock while giving players the tuning performance, tone and playability they expect from Graph Tech.”
The weight reduction is substantial: a traditional metal locking nut weighs roughly the same as four AAA batteries, while the Un-Lock Nut weighs about the same as one AAA battery.
Made from Graph Tech’s triple-lubricated Black TUSQ XL, the Un-Lock Nut features advanced slot geometry that helps the strings move smoothly through the nut. Its extended ramps distribute string stress more evenly, while the accurately matched radius and individually adjustable string heights allow for a precise setup. Players also benefit from smoother, easier string bending in the lower fret positions.
Both models are pre-slotted, accommodate most common string gauges and install without permanent modification to the guitar. As with any replacement nut, minor fitting and height adjustment may be required for the individual instrument.
