Swineshead, UK (March 25, 2008) -- Swineshead Pickups have announced the release of a new single coil pickup with a humbucker design. The SH90 is available in both plastic and wood models, and fits into any guitar with a standard humbucker slot.

SH90 Single CoilThe SH90 single coil pickup is in a humbucker housing. Its purpose is to open up a range of unique and previously unavailable tones. The wider design is meant to detect a greater length of the strings, produce a crisp tone with more warmth, and have more high end and less bass than a humbucker.

It also allows both bridge and neck positions for versatility. The neck position pickup is reverse wound with reverse polarity (sometimes called RWRP). This allows hum canceling in the middle position on a standard 3 way switch. The pickup can be ordered without this feature.

Swineshead is also releasing two new eight string humbuckers -- the Apex and Eclipse.

ApexThe Apex is designed for rock and metal players who play dirty but also like it clean. It is meant to deliver an aggressive tone that maintains clarity across all eight strings, but also has a versatile, clean tone that contrasts well. The Apex has two coils with alnico V pole pieces, and comes with a 4 conductor hookup wire.

Eclipse DiagramThe Eclipse design should provide a clean, expressive and even tone for all eight strings. Played dirty, the Eclipse is meant to deliver an articulate tone. This humbucker also has two coils with alnico V pole pieces and a 4 conductor hookup wire with several wiring options.

Way Huge Doom Hammer Review

Way Huge didn’t leave much to the imagination when it branded this fuzz the Doom Hammer. But that doesn’t mean it's without surprises. Jeorge Tripp’s latest design is based on an op-amp Big Muff that he modified for a client in the 1990s—primarily with the aim to tighten the low end. You hear Tripps hit that target when you play the Doom Hammer alongside other Big Muff types, which are massive in the low end and can sound comparatively sprawling in that frequency. But rather than merely heavy, the Doom Hammer’s combination of taut lows and the pronounced midrange one associates with op-amp Big Muffs is nasty, buzzy, punky, and brash. For all the desert-rock swagger in the name, the Doom Hammer is just as effective at lending contrast to heavy bass in a mix. And for any stoner rock power trio that has had to work against a wall of bottom-end sludge on stage or in the studio, it’s a practical and intriguing solution.
