Swineshead is releasing the SH90 single coil pickup and two eight string humbuckers

Swineshead, UK (March 25, 2008) -- Swineshead Pickups have announced the release of a new single coil pickup with a humbucker design. The SH90 is available in both plastic and wood models, and fits into any guitar with a standard humbucker slot.

SH90 Single CoilThe SH90 single coil pickup is in a humbucker housing. Its purpose is to open up a range of unique and previously unavailable tones. The wider design is meant to detect a greater length of the strings, produce a crisp tone with more warmth, and have more high end and less bass than a humbucker.

It also allows both bridge and neck positions for versatility. The neck position pickup is reverse wound with reverse polarity (sometimes called RWRP). This allows hum canceling in the middle position on a standard 3 way switch. The pickup can be ordered without this feature.

ApexThe Apex is designed for rock and metal players who play dirty but also like it clean. The Apex has two coils with alnico V pole pieces, and comes with a 4 conductor hookup wire.

While Monolord has no shortage of the dark and heavy, guitarist and vocalist Thomas V Jäger comes at it from a perspective more common to pop songsmiths.

Melodies, hooks, clean tones, and no guitar solos. Are we sure this Elliott Smith fan fronts a doom-metal band? (We’re sure!)

Legend has it the name Monolord refers to a friend of the band with the same moniker who lost hearing in his left ear, and later said it didn’t matter if the band recorded anything in stereo, because he could not hear it anyway. It’s a funny, though slightly tragic, bit of backstory, but that handle is befitting in yet another, perhaps even more profound, way. Doom and stoner metal are arguably the torch-bearing subgenres for hard rock guitar players, and if any band seems to hold the keys to the castle at this moment, it’s Monolord.
