York, PA(June 10, 2010) -- Downtown York has been selected as the site of the 2010 Pennsylvania Cigar Box Guitar Festival.
The day-long free music festival has been scheduled for Saturday, August 28, and attendants will see live performances from a series of nationally-touring acts. There will be two stages, one electric and amplified and one acoustic.
The festival will be hosted by The York Emporium Used Book and Curiosity Shop. Stages will be placed in their West Market Street parking lot and interior performance space.
The headliner for the festival is the Wisconsin-based band Purgatory Hill, notable for its lead singer Pat Macdonald. Macdonald, with his band Timbuk 3, had the 1980s hit “The Future’s So Bright (I Gotta Wear Shades)."
Other acts include New Jersey singer/songwriter Gerry Thompson, Pennsylvania musician One String Willie, Chicago blues singer Stacy Puckett, Cincinnati punk-blues duo 7 Hills Stomp, and New Jersey’s roots-blues band April Mae and the June Bugs.
All acts feature cigar box guitars.
Admission to the festival will be free. Organizers are planning to rent space to vendors to cover costs. Shane Speal, organizer of the festival, said that they plan to make this an annual event.
