The 6th Annual Music City Songwriting Competition is Underway

The competition will accept entries from now until January 31, 2013 and is open to amateur songwriters only.

Nashville, TN (November 5, 2012) – The Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is announcing its sixth annual Music City Songwriting Competition with recording artist Little Big Town serving as the honorary ambassador.

The competition will accept entries from now until January 31, 2013 and is open to amateur songwriters only. Submission forms with completed entries can be mailed to Music City Songwriting Competition, P.O. Box 190633, Nashville, TN 37219 USA or submitted online at www.americansongspace.com/musiccitycontest2012. Submission fee for the first song is $30 USD. Each additional song is $20 USD.

The winning songwriter will receive a $1,000 cash prize, two (2) roundtrip Southwest Airlines tickets to Music City (winner and one (1) guest), and spend five nights at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel downtown, with transportation provided from Nashville International Airport to hotel and return from hotel to airport. While in town, the winner will be interviewed by Storme Warren host of GAC’s Headline Country and “Music Row Happy Hour” on Sirius/XM Highway 59 Radio, interviewed on GAC TV to run in a scheduled show, and will have an interview featured in American Songwriter Magazine. Little Big Town will also offer a mentoring session and a personalized autographed CD to the winner. The winning song will be performed during the taping of Sirius/XM Satellite Radio Show’s “Music City Connection: Heroes Behind the Hits,” a monthly radio show recorded and produced by the Nashville CVB, and the song will be highlighted on Music City Radio, Nashville’s online radio station. Additionally, the winner will receive a one-hour writing session with a professional songwriter, and the opportunity to receive a single song publishing deal. A Nashville Music City Gift Bag and a Backstage Pass will be included, which offers complimentary admission for two to more than 30 Nashville attractions.

Entries will be narrowed down to the top 25 which will then be judged by a panel of top names in the Nashville music industry, including Little Big Town, Grammy-winning songwriter Tim Nichols, ASCAP’s Mike Sistad, Lawrence Music Group’s Alex Torrez, GAC and Sirius XM personality, Storme Warren and Nashville CVB President, Butch Spyridon. Judges will rate each song based on the following criteria: melody, composition, originality, lyrics and, most importantly, commercial appeal.

Everyone who enters the Music City Songwriting Competition will receive a copy of Little Big Town’s latest CD, Tornado, and the 25 finalists will also receive a certificate of recognition, written feedback on the song submitted, and a Music City Gift bag.

Last year’s winning song “Lie” by Ruben Estevez will be a single on Tracy Lawrence’s spring 2013 release “Headlights, Taillights and Radios”.

The Nashville CVB is proud to partner with American Songwriter, GAC, Southwest Airlines, Nashville, FYE, Renaissance Nashville Hotel, and Music City Radio to make it all happen.
