IK Multmedia have announced the Jimi Hendrix Anniversary Collection which includes several new amps and a classic tape echo.
Sunrise, FL (February 7, 2013) -- IK Multimedia, in collaboration with Authentic Hendrix, LLC, is proud to announce the AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix Anniversary Collection, an expanded and updated version of its renowned AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix software for Mac and PC, featuring new officially licensed, ultra-accurate models of genuine Hendrix gear. The updated set provides users with even more options for tapping into Jimi’s legendary sonic artistry.
Named to commemorate the recent 70th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s birthday, the new collection runs inside the AmpliTube Custom Shop software, which can be used as a DAW plug-in or as a standalone application, featuring a built-in 4-track recorder and speed-trainer. In addition to being released in the collection, all the Hendrix models are now available for à la carte purchase from the Custom Shop.
The new gear was modeled using IK’s state-of-the-art modeling technology, resulting in remarkably authentic representations of the original units. The collection expands the acclaimed AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix gear lineup of 4 amps, 7 cabinets, 5 microphones, 10 stomps and 4 rack effects, with 3 new amp models and a classic tape echo. Combined, there are 34 pieces of must-have vintage guitar and bass equipment, all of which have helped define the history of rock and modern music.
The SilverTwelve (model is based on the Silvertone Twin Twelve 1484) is a 60W tube head with a separate 2x12 cabinet, which Hendrix used in the early part of his career. The amp produces a powerful clean sound and a gritty distortion, and has stood the test of time from the psychedelic era through the Grunge period and into today’s modern rock.
The JH Gold (model based on a Marshall JTM 45) is “the” amp that Hendrix used almost exclusively from 1968 on. He liked to crank it to full volume and chain multiple heads to produce a huge, mind-blowing wall of sound. The new model has been reworked from the ground up, using IK’s DSM and SCC modeling technologies, and includes both the Normal and Treble channels, plus fully modeled channel bridging.
The JH 1200 (model based on the Sunn 1200), is a high-powered tube bass head. Concertgoers at any Hendrix show between 1967 and 1968 would have seen an entire backline consisting of Sunn amps and cabinets. As with many amps from the psychedelic era, the ultra-loud 1200 was popular with both guitarists and bass players.
The EP Tape Echo (model based on the Maestro Echoplex) is the gold standard of vintage tape-echo units. Hendrix liked experimenting with it to produce wild psychedelic effects in the studio, and he used it heavily during the recording of Electric Ladyland.
Because all the Hendrix models are available in the Custom Shop, users of other AmpliTube versions, including the free AmpliTube Custom Shop, have access to these models for individual purchase.
The Custom Shop is the IK exclusive online gear shop and is integrated into AmpliTube software and plug-ins. It provides users with a huge range of amps, cabinets, microphones and effects that can be purchased individually. The “Try Before You Buy” feature makes it possible to download a fully functioning version of any model to audition it prior to purchase.
The AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix Anniversary Collection is the latest addition to the IK family of guitar and bass products that, thanks to IK's unmatched modeling technologies, offers products with the best names in guitar effects and amplification such as Fender, Ampeg, Orange, Soldano, Seymour Duncan, T-Rex, and the rock icon Slash.

Nashville's historic Gruhn Guitars give PG an exclusive look at a very early amp that is a piece of rock history that preceded the heralded JTM45. Amp builder and reverb aficionado Eric Borash of Ebo Sounds shares his expertise on this rare amp's lineage, while John Bohlinger plugs in Dan Auerbach's old '60s ES-335 to test it out.
Beetronics FX Tuna Fuzz pedal offers vintage-style fuzz in a quirky tuna can enclosure.
With a single "Stinker" knob for volume control and adjustable fuzz gain from your guitar's volume knob, this pedal is both unique and versatile.
"The unique tuna can format embodies the creative spirit that has always been the heart of Beetronics, but don’t let the unusual package fool you: the Tuna Fuzz is a serious pedal with great tone. It offers a preset level of vintage-style fuzz in a super simple single-knob format. Its “Stinker” knob controls the amount of volume boost. You can control the amount of fuzz with your guitar’s volume knob, and the Tuna Fuzz cleans up amazingly well when you roll back the volume on your guitar. To top it off, Beetronics has added a cool Tunabee design on the PCB, visible through the plastic back cover."
The Tuna Fuzz draws inspiration from Beetronics founder Filipe's early days of tinkering, when limitedfunds led him to repurpose tuna cans as pedal enclosures. Filipe even shared his ingenuity by teachingclasses in Brazil, showing kids how to build pedals using these unconventional housings. Although Filipe eventually stopped making pedals with tuna cans, the early units were a hit on social media whenever photos were posted.
Tuna Fuzz features include:
- Single knob control – “Stinker” – for controlling output volume
- Preset fuzz gain, adjustable from your guitar’s volume knob
- 9-volt DC operation using standard external power supply – no battery compartment
- True bypass switching
One of the goals of this project was to offer an affordable price so that everyone could own a Beetronicspedal. For that reason, the pedal will be sold exclusively on beetronicsfx.com for a sweet $99.99.
