In early May, post-hardcore titans Drug Church rolled through Nashville’s Basement East. Before the gig, PG’s Perry Bean headed to the venue to meet up with guitarists Nick Cogan and Cory Galusha for a look at the gear they’re using to shake walls across the country. Jazzed Up
Cogan’s a Jazzmaster devotee, and the green Custom Shop Jazzmaster pictured here is his first pick. The white one is on hand to give it a break, and another Custom Shop—this one in red—comes on the road as well. All are kept mostly custom, with hand-wound Custom Shop Jazzmaster pickups, 250k pots, and added Mastery bridges, plus D’Addario NYXL strings.
Strike Up the Chorus
Cogan plays through a Roland Jazz Chorus 120, with a second JC-120 onstage as a backup.
Nick Cogan’s Pedalboard
Cogan’s pedalboard carries an Ernie Ball volume pedal, TC Electronic PolyTune, Boss NS-1X, Ibanez Tube Screamer, Pro Co The RAT, Electro-Harmonix Neo Clone, DigiTech Whammy Ricochet, MXR Phase 90, and Maneco Labs 16 Second Digital Delay.
Les Pauls
Galusha’s main guitar is a 1977 Gibson Les Paul Standard in tobacco burst, which features a volute to reinforce the neck and headstock. The LP at left is ready for action in case of a broken string. Both take Ernie Ball strings (.010–.052).
Brown Sound
Galusha runs this 1981 Marshall JCM800 into an Orange 4x12 cab, loaded with Celestion Vintage 30s.
Cory Galusha’s Pedalboard
Galusha’s board includes an Ernie Ball VP JR, Shure GLXD16+, TC Electronic PolyTune 3, Boss NS-2, Ibanez Tube Screamer, Walrus Iron Horse, Walrus Julia, MXR Phase 90, and Electronic-Harmonix Freeze Nano. A Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 Plus powers the system.
