Columbia, SC (February 24, 2020) -- Industry expectations and standard practices require Caroline Guitar Company, an audio effects design and manufacturing firm in Columbia, South Carolina, to announce the wide retail release of its Megabyte Lo-Fi Delay Computer pedal via a press release.

The format traditionally uses an anodyne yet positive-sounding quote for the second paragraph, so that task falls to Philippe Herndon, company founder, chief designer, and lead bottle washer at Caroline.

“People have asked us for years to make a tap-tempo delay,” Herndon said. “I had some curious ideas how we might go about that, but our customers repeatedly confronted me and said they wanted a tap- tempo version of our popular Kilobyte delay. So with our collaborators, John Snyder at Electronic Audio Experiments and Scott McCombs at McCohms Labs, we split the difference.”

In addition to the oft-requested tap-tempo function, which allows users to tap in their desired delay time via a footswitch, the Megabyte’s standout benefits are its fun, range, and immediacy. A +21db preamp allows the repeats to be quickly driven into clipping. With two PT-2399 delay chips wired for increased time and improved noise performance, the Megabyte can provide up to 1,200 ms of delay time between echoes. Caroline’s trademark “Havoc” function provides runaway repeats when the user holds down the tap button, a modulation control detunes the repeats for greater depth and color, and the pedal can be easily and quickly changed between trails and true bypass modes simply by holding down the bypass button. These functions are easily accessible via the intuitive controls on Caroline’s standard-size pedal format, and the user manual is a simple postcard.

Continuing the company’s history of using limited product releases to benefit local nonprofits, Caroline sold a limited number of Megabyte pedals in an advance sale benefitting Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands, during which it raised more than $3,000 for victim assistance and operations. Previous advance sales have benefitted the Central Carolina Community Foundation, Girls Rock Columbia, Mental Illness Recovery Center Inc., and the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.

Assembled in the USA at the Caroline workshop in South Carolina, the Megabyte is available through Caroline's worldwide retailer network. The MAP and street price for the MegabyteTM are $249.99.
