Epiphone and Slash Team Up for New Firebirds

Slash’s Premium Outfit Limited to 100 guitars, each hand-signed and numbered by Slash, plus a hard case and custom leather strap.

Nashville, TN (September 19, 2018) -- Epiphone proudly presents the new Ltd. Ed. Slash Firebird Premium Outfit and Ltd. Ed. Slash Firebird, designed by Guns N’ Roses legend and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Slash! Production of the new Slash Firebird Premium Outfit will be limited to only 100 guitars, each hand signed and numbered on the back of the headstock by Slash. The Firebird Premium Outfit includes a Custom Hard Case, a custom leather strap, and a Certificate of Authenticity.

In 2017, Slash was named Gibson Brands’ first Global Brand Ambassador. And to celebrate his new Firebird Premium Outfit, Slash has hand signed and numbered all 100 Firebird Premium Outfits, which include a hard case with Slash’s “Skull and Top Hat” logo and a custom leather strap.

But if you miss out on finding one of the 100 signed Firebird Premium Outfits, you’re still in luck! Slash has authorized an additional 900 Ltd. Ed. Slash Firebird guitars to be sold worldwide. And both the Firebird Premium Outfit and the Ltd. Ed. Firebird guitars have the same specs and features designed by Slash with Epiphone’s luthiers in Nashville, TN.

“The Firebird design has always been attractive to me,” Slash told Epiphone.com. “From a sonic point of view, they are set up to do a very different kind of thing than what I do with a Les Paul. I finally got a chance to do one with Epiphone that was more to my specs. And they did a beautiful job. I figure if it stands up to me it will stand up to most anybody.”

Slash’s new Firebirds feature a AAA Flame Maple top in a Translucent Black finish, a Pau Ferro fingerboard, Seymour Duncan "Slash" Open Coil Humbuckers, and Sprague "Orange Drop" capacitors.

With the E Street Band, he’s served as musical consigliere to Bruce Springsteen for most of his musical life. And although he stands next to the Boss onstage, guitar in hand, he’s remained mostly quiet about his work as a player—until now.

I’m stuck in Stevie Van Zandt’s elevator, and the New York City Fire Department has been summoned. It’s early March, and I am trapped on the top floor of a six-story office building in Greenwich Village. On the other side of this intransigent door is Van Zandt’s recording studio, his guitars, amps, and other instruments, his Wicked Cool Records offices, and his man cave. The latter is filled with so much day-glo baby boomer memorabilia that it’s like being dropped into a Milton Glaser-themed fantasy land—a bright, candy-colored chandelier swings into the room from the skylight.

The company's founding master luthier Richard Hoover invites PG's John Bohlinger inside his NorCal guitar sanctuary. The first installment shares Hoover's deep appreciation and reverence for wood and nature. He explains that he was moved by the redwoods at an early age setting him up for a life among the trees. He then gets into how he sustainably sources exotic tonewoods from across the world before detailing how he mixes violin-making traditions with the modern scientific analysis he's helping collect with Stanford to try and build the best instruments possible.
