Harman’s DigiTech Introduces Unplugged Acoustic Simulator for iStomp

The Unplugged Acoustic Simulator transforms an electric guitar to sound like an acoustic guitar, and includes built-in Lexicon Hall reverb to add fullness and presence to the acoustic guitar sound.

Salt Lake City, UT (September 10, 2012) – Harman’s DigiTech is celebrating “Stomp-tember 2012” with the release of its new Unplugged Acoustic Simulator for the iStomp downloadable stompbox. The Unplugged Acoustic Simulator transforms an electric guitar to sound like an acoustic guitar, and includes built-in Lexicon Hall reverb to add fullness and presence to the acoustic guitar sound.

The Unplugged Acoustic Simulator uses proprietary Harman-developed DSP algorithms to analyze and process the input from an electric guitar and transform it into the sonic signature of an acoustic guitar, with all of its distinctive acoustic timbres, harmonic complexity and dynamic responsiveness. The acoustic ambience can be further enhanced by dialing in the e-pedal’s Lexicon Hall reverb – the classic lush, expansive reverb heard on thousands of recordings. Adding to its sonic spaciousness, the Unplugged Acoustic Simulator features true stereo inputs and outputs. Its controls include LOW EQ, HIGH EQ, REVERB (reverb level) and LEVEL (effect level).

The DigiTech iStomp is an entirely new concept in guitar stompboxes that allows musicians to turn the iStomp into any pedal in the Stomp Shop online pedal store. Offering almost limitless sonic possibilities, the iStomp connects to an Apple iOS device where musicians can use the Stomp Shop app to load it with the e-pedal of their choice. The Stomp Shop is a free app and comes with two of the most popular requested pedals, the DigiTech Total Recall Delay and the DigiTech Redline Overdrive. It gives access to more than 30 additional pedals that musicians can browse, try out and purchase, with more pedals added every month.

The DigiTech Unplugged Acoustic Simulator e-pedal will be available in September 2012 at an introductory price of $0.99. This introductory price will run through September 31, 2012. After the introductory period the price will change to $7.99.

The DigiTech iStomp is currently available at $229.95 MSRP.

This Japan-made Guyatone brings back memories of hitchin’ rides around the U.S.

This oddball vintage Guyatone has a streak of Jack Kerouac’s adventurous, thumbing spirit.

The other day, I saw something I hadn’t noticed in quite some time. Driving home from work, I saw an interesting-looking fellow hitchhiking. When I was a kid, “hitchers” seemed much more common, but, then again, the world didn’t seem as dangerous as today. Heck, I can remember hitching to my uncle’s cabin in Bradford, Pennsylvania—home of Zippo lighters—and riding almost 200 miles while I sat in a spare tire in the open bed of a pickup truck! Yes, safety wasn’t a big concern for kids back in the day.

Improvising over one chord for long stretches of time can be a musician's best friend or worst nightmare. With no harmonic variation, we are left to generate interest through our lines, phrasing, and creativity. When I started learning to improvise, a minor 7 chord and a Dorian mode were the only sounds that I wanted to hear at the time. I found it tremendously helpful to have the harmony stay in one spot while I mined for new ideas to play. Playing over a static chord was crucial in developing my sense of time and phrasing.
