Death By Audio and Rainger FX Announce the Amp Crash

Amp Crash captures the sound and feel of a cranked amp inside a compact stompbox. A real amplifier drives a real speaker, while a built-in microphone captures what that speaker is actually doing. Players can then blend the direct amplifier signal with the mic'd sound, creating everything from rich, touch-sensitive overdrive to crushing fuzz, blooming harmonics, natural feedback, and completely unpredictable textures.

Unlike traditional distortion or amp simulation pedals, Amp Crash creates sound physically, not just electronically. As the amplifier, speaker, and microphone interact, they generate harmonics, feedback, compression, and textures that only exist because air is physically moving inside the pedal. The result is an instrument that breathes, responds, and sometimes even fights back.

The project began when David Rainger came to New York with an idea: put a microphone inside a pedal so ambient sound could blend with the guitar signal, creating new harmonics and unexpected overtones. Death By Audio took that idea and asked another question: what if the pedal contained its own speaker?

The internal speaker and microphone interacted like a real amp in a room, producing the sound and feel of small combo amps pushed to their limits. From there, Death By Audio built a complete multi-effects engine around the concept, adding Reverb, Echo, and Chorus to push the sounds even further.

Amp Crash can be a real mic'd amp experience, a compact recording tool, a portable practice amp, an experimental effects platform, or an endlessly inspiring instrument capable of sounds that conventional pedals simply cannot create.

An external 8Ω speaker output also allows players to connect a speaker cabinet, transforming Amp Crash into a tiny but very real amplifier.
