Woburn, MA (October 16, 2014) -- Source Audio has released the Soundblox 2 Stingray Multi-Filter. Since the introduction of the Hot Hand Wah back in 2006 and the Soundblox Bass Envelope Filter in 2011, Source Audio has built a reputation for making excellent filter effects with immense tonal range and superior envelope control. The Stingray carries on that tradition and adds some exciting features like new LFO wave shapes, onboard overdrive/fuzz, improved envelope response, external control options, and full MIDI capabilities. "Over the last ten years, no other effects company has been as deeply invested in all aspects of filter understanding and development as Source Audio" says company owner, Roger Smith, "Stingray is our ultimate creation and expression of beauty and depth."

The Stingray includes 12 diverse and finely crafted filter effects, including low pass, high pass, phaser, single peak, and multi-peak. Each filter brings its own unique character, from a resonant and aggressive Single Peak Filter, to smooth, vowel flavored Multi-Peak effects. The Stingray also contains an internal overdrive/fuzz circuit that adds an entirely new set of possibilities to the sound palette - users can blend a wide range of distortion levels with any of the filter effects, from moderate overdrive to extreme and aggressive fuzz.

"I truly think the potential of filter effects has been largely ignored by pedal builders," says Source Audio's Head of Engineering, Jesse Remignanti. "Traditional envelope filter pedals are very limited in the range of sounds you can get, but with the LFO waveform options and built in overdrive, the Stingray has a wealth of completely original tones, everything from basic wahs to ambient oscillating vocal sounds and beyond. This pedal really is a filter powerhouse."

Another feature that sets the Stingray apart from others is the number of methods by which users can modulate the pedal's filters. The Stingray features forward and reverse envelope followers with adjustable attack and decay, as well as four different LFO wave shapes (Sine, Square, Random Sample and Hold, and Sawtooth) whose modulation speed can be controlled by the pedal's tap tempo function. The Stingray's filter modulation can also be controlled externally with Source Audio's own Dual Expression Pedal or the revolutionary Hot Hand 3 motion sensing wireless ring. And external control is not restricted to filter modulation - it's also possible to assign Hot Hand or the expression pedal to any of the Stingray's knob parameters.

One key aspect that made the original Soundblox Bass Envelope Filter so appealing to filter fanatics was its superior envelope filter response. The Stingray carries on that tradition, but with improved envelope technology. "Our very first product here at Source Audio had an envelope follower," says Source Audio's Chief Scientist, Bob Chidlaw."I've continued to refine the processing over nearly ten years, to try to make it more responsive and 'right' feeling.What we have now is a feel and response that far surpasses what's possible with simple analog circuits."

The Stingray, like all Soundblox 2 pedals, is compatible with Source Audio's Soundblox Hub v1.Connecting the Stingray to the Hub (along with up to four other Soundblox 2 pedals) taps into the pedal's full range of MIDI capabilities. The Hub allows users to save up to 128 multi pedal presets (or, as Source Audio calls them, "Scenes") easily recalled by any MIDI controller. The Multi-Function In jack - included in all Soundblox 2 units - also allows the pedal to receive continuous controller messages via the Hub for external expression control of the Stingray and other Soundblox 2 pedals simultaneously.

Legend has it the name Monolord refers to a friend of the band with the same moniker who lost hearing in his left ear, and later said it didn’t matter if the band recorded anything in stereo, because he could not hear it anyway. It’s a funny, though slightly tragic, bit of backstory, but that handle is befitting in yet another, perhaps even more profound, way. Doom and stoner metal are arguably the torch-bearing subgenres for hard rock guitar players, and if any band seems to hold the keys to the castle at this moment, it’s Monolord.
