Fishman Releases the Fluence Greg Koch Gristle-Tone Signature Series P-90

Fishman Fluence Greg Koch

With the success of his Signature Gristle-Tone pickup set for Telecaster guitars, it was no surprise when Greg asked Fishman to explore the possibilities of Fluence technology applied to the P90. Like his Gristle-Tone Tele set, Greg's Signature Series P90s are deeply rooted in tradition, and then un-rooted in sounds that only Greg can conjure ā€“ satisfying all his lascivious P90 needs!

The original P90, first introduced in 1946, clean or overdriven, sounded great for jazz, rock, country, and other styles of playing. However, it was not without its issues of inherent hum, acoustic feedback, and noise. The intrinsic, player-benefits of Fluence technology become immediately apparent with the Gristle-Tone P90 set ā€“ no hum, no noise, and no feedback. Unlike stacked "humbucker" P90 variants, which can actually aggravate certain problems while curing others, with Fluence all of those issues are eliminated, leaving pure, unadulterated, Fluence Multi-Voice tone.

Fishman Founder, Larry Fishman states, "It's always a pleasure to work with Greg. He knows what he's looking for and can express it well both verbally and musically. Our sessions become something like 'product jams,' trading back and forth until we hit that perfect note."

Greg adds, "We set forth to come up with a set of P90 pickups to completely ameliorate the angst of humanity, and we came damn closeā€¦"

Fluence Greg Koch Gristle-Tone Signature Series P90 pickups are available as aftermarket, body-mount, drop-in replacements, or as original equipment in Greg's Gristle 90 Signature Reverend guitar.

Selenium, an alternative to silicon and germanium, helps make an overdrive of great nuance and delectable boost and low-gain overdrive tones.

Clever application of alternative materials that results in a simple, make-everything-sound-better boost and low-gain overdrive.

Might not have enough overdrive for some tastes (although thatā€™s kind of the idea).

The term ā€œselenium rectifierā€ might be Greek to most guitarists, but if it rings a bell with any vintage-amp enthusiasts thatā€™s likely because you pulled one of these green, sugar-cube-sized components out of your ampā€™s tube-biasing network to replace it with a silicon diode.

Gibson originally launched the EB-6 model with the intention of serving consumers looking for a ā€œtic-tacā€ bass sound.

You may know the Gibson EB-6, but what you may not know is that its first iteration looked nothing like its latest.

When many guitarists first encounter Gibsonā€™s EB-6, a rare, vintage 6-string bass, they assume it must be a response to the Fender Bass VI. And manyEB-6 basses sport an SG-style body shape, so they do look exceedingly modern. (Itā€™s easy to imagine a stoner-rock or doom-metal band keeping one amid an arsenal of Dunables and EGCs.) But the earliest EB-6 basses didnā€™t look anything like SGs, and they arrived a full year before the more famous Fender.
