Gibson proudly introduces the new Songwriter Recording Artist and Songwriter Recording Artist EC, two handcrafted acoustic-electric guitars that elevate one of Gibson’s most beloved modern designs. First introduced in the late 1990s, the Songwriter series has long been celebrated for its unique square-shoulder modern dreadnought shape and its ability to blend classic Gibson character with contemporary performance. With these new Recording Artist models, Gibson brings together the historic tonal DNA of its 1930s acoustics with the precision, power, and versatility demanded by today’s top players.
Both instruments are handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, and designed for the guitarist who requires exceptional studio clarity, stage-ready reliability, and the unmistakable depth and richness of Gibson acoustic tone. Featuring thermally aged Sitka spruce tops, rosewood backs and sides, long-scale mahogany necks, and the highly responsive L.R. Baggs™ HiFi electronics system, the Songwriter Recording Artist and the Songwriter Recording Artist EC—available in striking Rosewood Burst and Antique Natural finishes—deliver a dynamic, expressive playing experience that honors Gibson’s heritage while pushing its acoustic craftsmanship forward.
The Gibson Songwriter Recording Artist and Songwriter Recording Artist EC are now available worldwide at Gibson Garage locations, via authorized Gibson dealers, and on Gibson.com.
Gibson Songwriter Recording Artist in Rosewood Burst
The Songwriter Recording Artist captures the historic tonal advantages of Gibson’s famed 1930s scalloped Advanced X-braced top, paired with a 25.5” long scale length and tonewoods reminiscent of the legendary 1936 Advanced Jumbo. The result is a powerful, articulate, and unmistakably Gibson voice—warm, balanced, and rich with overtones. Handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, the guitar features a thermally aged Sitka spruce top matched with rosewood back and sides for exceptional projection and clarity. Its 25.5” scale mahogany neck has a comfortable, Round profile and is topped with a bound ebony fretboard adorned with mother-of-pearl diamond eye inlays. A compound dovetail neck joint secured with hot hide glue ensures maximum tonal transfer and long-term stability.
Premium appointments include a bound headstock with a rosewood veneer inlaid with the Gibson logo and crown, a bone nut, gold Grover® open back tuners, an ebony bridge with a bone saddle and TUSQ® bridge pins, and mother-of-pearl arrow inlays. The thermally aged top is protected by a custom line tortoise pickguard and framed by a wide abalone rosette. Designed for both recording and live performance, the Songwriter Recording Artist comes equipped with the L.R. Baggs® HiFi system, featuring dual bridge plate sensors and an internal preamp that deliver natural acoustic tone, outstanding dynamics, and excellent feedback resistance. Soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls remain discreet yet easily accessible. The guitar ships in a Gibson hardshell case, ready for the studio, the stage, and the road.
Gibson Songwriter Recording Artist EC in Antique Natural
The Songwriter Recording Artist EC builds on the same tonal foundation as the non-cutaway model, adding a Venetian cutaway for enhanced upper fret access—ideal for lead players, modern finger stylists, and anyone who wants expanded range from their acoustic guitar. Handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, the EC model features a thermally aged Sitka spruce top paired with rosewood back and sides, delivering the same powerful, articulate voice that defines the Songwriter lineage. Its 25.5” scale mahogany neck features a comfortable, Round profile and a smooth, bound ebony fretboard with mother-of-pearl diamond eye inlays. The compound dovetail neck joint, secured with hot hide glue, ensures exceptional resonance and tonal integrity.
The EC model shares the same premium appointments as its counterpart: a bound headstock with rosewood veneer and mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and Crown, a bone nut, gold Grover® open back tuners, an ebony bridge with bone saddle and TUSQ® bridge pins, and elegant mother-of-pearl arrow inlays. The thermally aged top is protected by a custom line tortoise pickguard and accented with a wide abalone rosette. Designed for seamless performance on stage or in the studio, the Songwriter Recording Artist EC features the L.R. Baggs® HiFi electronics system, offering natural acoustic tone, excellent string balance, and feedback resistance. Discreet soundhole-mounted controls allow easy adjustments without compromising aesthetics. The guitar ships in a Gibson hardshell case, making it a powerful companion for professional players who demand versatility and exceptional tone.
