Available for the first time since 2008, the PRS Artist Package provides thousands of unique combinations and enhanced features for guitarists and collectors alike.

Stevensville, MD (April 4, 2012) ā€“ Paul Reed Smith Guitars is introducing the new PRS Artist Package, an exclusive platform that offers expanded features, options, and colors on select models in the PRS core electric guitar line. Available for the first time since 2008, the PRS Artist Package provides thousands of unique combinations and enhanced features for guitarists and collectors alike.

2012 Artist Package instruments come standard with exceptional tone woods, including an artist grade (flame or quilt) maple top, select mahogany back, ebony headstock veneer with inlaid signature, ebony truss rod cover, and premium Mexican ebony fingerboard. This is the first time outside of the Private Stock program that PRS is offering Mexican ebony, a wood which, once oiled, turns a beautiful, deep chocolate brown. Several unique options are also available, including the choice of PRSā€™s coveted 57/08, 59/09, or 53/10 pickups (excluding the P22 and 513); gold, nickel, or hybrid hardware; a figured maple or East Indian rosewood neck; and a figured maple (maple neck only) or ebony fretboard. New artist bird inlays (green abalone with green ripple outlines on Mexican ebony and ebony fretboards / green abalone with black lip mother of pearl outlines on maple fretboards), V12 finish, and an artist case are also included.

The Artist Package will be available on the Custom 24, Studio, P22 (no pickup substitution), 513 Maple Top (no pickup substitution), SC 58, McCarty 58, Hollowbody II (Quilt top and back optional), and Singlecut Hollowbody II (Quilt top and back optional), and the Custom 22 (this model is available via the Artist Package program only).

This Japan-made Guyatone brings back memories of hitchinā€™ rides around the U.S.

This oddball vintage Guyatone has a streak of Jack Kerouacā€™s adventurous, thumbing spirit.

The other day, I saw something I hadnā€™t noticed in quite some time. Driving home from work, I saw an interesting-looking fellow hitchhiking. When I was a kid, ā€œhitchersā€ seemed much more common, but, then again, the world didnā€™t seem as dangerous as today. Heck, I can remember hitching to my uncleā€™s cabin in Bradford, Pennsylvaniaā€”home of Zippo lightersā€”and riding almost 200 miles while I sat in a spare tire in the open bed of a pickup truck! Yes, safety wasnā€™t a big concern for kids back in the day.

Improvising over one chord for long stretches of time can be a musician's best friend or worst nightmare. With no harmonic variation, we are left to generate interest through our lines, phrasing, and creativity. When I started learning to improvise, a minor 7 chord and a Dorian mode were the only sounds that I wanted to hear at the time. I found it tremendously helpful to have the harmony stay in one spot while I mined for new ideas to play. Playing over a static chord was crucial in developing my sense of time and phrasing.

Fifteen watts that sits in a unique tone space and offers modern signal routing options.

A distinct alternative to the most popular 1x10 combos. Muscular and thick for a 1x10 at many settings. Pairs easily with single-coils and humbuckers. Cool looks.

Tone stack could be more rangeful.

When you imagine an ideal creative space, what do you see? A loft? A barn? A cabin far from distraction? Reveling in such visions is inspiration and a beautiful escape. Reality for most of us, though, is different. Weā€™re lucky to have a corner in the kitchen or a converted closet to make music in. Still, thereā€™s a romance and sense of possibility in these modest spaces, and the 15-watt, 1x10, all-tubeSupro Montauk is an amplifier well suited to this kind of place. It enlivens cramped corners with its classy, colorful appearance. Itā€™s compact. Itā€™s also potent enough to sound and respond like a bigger amp in a small room.
