G&L Launches the Kiloton 5 Bass

The new Kiloton 5 hits the target with an explosive B-string, backed by all the hardware that fuels the 4-string’s visceral impact.

Fullerton, CA (May 11, 2017) -- Following the launch of the Kiloton 4-string late in 2016, G&L fans immediately demanded a 5-string version. The new Kiloton 5 hits the target with an explosive B-string, backed by all the hardware that fuels the 4-string’s visceral impact.

The Kiloton features the most comfortable bass body ever created by Leo Fender. It's compact and pure, with every curve and contour perfectly executed. And with its B string added, Kiloton 5 delivers even more firepower from its single G&L Magnetic Field Design humbucker, planted right in the sweet spot specified by Leo Fender back when the G&L factory was still called CLF Research.

Kiloton 5's single MFD ‘bucker fires without the aid of a preamp, while a 3-position series/split/parallel toggle harnesses the coils' power. Simple volume and tone controls are devastatingly effective, revealing a wide range of textures Leo's MFD bucker is famous for. What's more, Kiloton 5 is armed with a 6-bolt neck and Leo Fender-designed Saddle-Lock bridge to transfer all the energy right into the body end-grain for an incredibly resonant instrument.

The new Kiloton 5 features a solid Alder or Swamp Ash body, depending on finish choice, and a Maple neck with either Rosewood or Maple fretboard. Other specs include:

  • G&L MFD humbucker and body shape created by Leo Fender
  • Series/split/parallel coil control, volume, tone
  • 1 7/8” nut-width, Modern-C neck profile
  • Medium-jumbo frets

The Kiloton 5 starts at MSRP $2,142 with street price of about $1,499.99.
