"The Carsу lanky frontman Ric Ocasek also showed his preference for Gibson SGs for holding down the bandуs rhythm guitar parts. The Cars 13-song set included their hits ""Let the Good Times Roll,"" ""Best Friend's Girl,"" ""Let's Go,"" and the Fast Times at Ridgemont High-approved ""Moving in Stereo."""

"Canadian drum-and-bass duo Death From Above 1979 has been hitting the festival circuit hard since reuniting in February of this yearяSXSW, Coachella, Sasquatch, and the Ottawa Bluesfest were among the shows preparing the band for Lollapalooza 2011. Bassist Jesse F. Keeler dug into his Rickenbacker 4003 while belting out vocals during the bandуs midday set. Keeler also used a black Gibson Flying V bass during DFA's performance."

Maps and Atlases guitarist Dave Davison taps the upper frets of his well-worn vintage Harmony semi-hollow guitar.

"Enveloped in bubbles and banging out chords in a рYour Ad Hereс tee, Daniel Zott of the oddly-named duo Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. took breaking the mold seriously. He employed a 1974 Fender Telecaster Thinline through a 1970s Fender Twin Reverb to craft the bandуs deceptively large sound."

Genre-blending rockers My Morning Jacket have made a name for themselves through their epic festival appearances. Though their Lollapalooza set lacked big name guestsяKirk Hammett and Zach Galifianakis joined MMJ for their 2008 Bonnaroo appearanceяit was packed full of tasty licks delivered expertly by lead guitarist Carl Broemel and his Deusenberg Starplayer TV. The у60s-flavored guitar features a т60s-style tremoloяput to good use by Broemel hereяand custom-wound Duesenberg DP90 in the neck and Duesenberg Grand Vintage humbucker in the bridge.

Chicago natives Disappears played to their hometown crowd in Grant Park. Guitarist Jonathan van Herik worked the upper frets on his Gibson ES-335.

"Touring bassist for Cee Lo Green, Roberts relied upon her Gibson SG Reissue bass to compliment her multi-buckled outfit and serious rock face as she laid down the all-important bass groove for Cee Loуs solo and Gnarls Barkley hits, as well as surprise covers of Danzig's ""Mother"" and Journey's ""Don't Stop Believing."""

Grohl took the stage solo to open the bandуs set with his distinctive Gibson Custom Inspired By Dave Grohl DG-335. He chugged out the opening riffs to рBridge Burningс from the bands latest album Wasting Light before the rest of the bandяand the rain cloudsяjoined him. His Inspired By model is actually inspired by Gibsonуs Trini Lopez ES-335.

"Attendees of Chicago's three-day music festival endured rain, delayed sets, and muddy grounds, to enjoy the wealth of diverse tunes on the schedule. The weather made it impossible to shoot some of the lineup's biggest names (Muse, Arctic Monkeys, A Perfect Circle), but we crossed Grant Park to grab as many shots as possible of bands big and small to see and hear what Lolla had to offer for guitarists."

"Nate Collis, guitarist for the Minneapolis hip hop group Atmosphere, plugged his Fender Toronado into a Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier Roadster 2x12 combo that also powered a complementary Soldano 2x12 cabinet."

"Guitarist John Gourley joyfully sang his heart out for what would become one of his last songs with the pictured Gretsch White Falcon. The guitar, along with the rest of the bandуs gear, was stolen after their Lollapalooza set. Among the stolen gear were a 1966 Gretsch Viking, a 1959 Guild guitar, a number of vintage Fender amps, and a slew of vintage and boutique pedals. The band is asking for any help in locating the van, a red Ford 350 with Alaska plates (FJH2440) and a black trailer, and getting their gear safely back home."

Erin Elders lent his chops via Gibson SG to Maps and Atlases' math-rock-meets-pop tunes.

Mick Jonesяbest-known as co-founder and guitarist for The Clashяholds a chord on his Fender Custom Shop Telecaster Thinline onstage with the recently reunited Big Audio Dynamite.

"Getting soulful on his Strat during the drummer's beer break, guitarist Jacob Bond of Colorado's The Chain Gang of 1974 plugged into (appropriately) a 1974 Peavey Vintage amp. Bond uses Native Instruments Guitar Rig 4 for effects."

"One half of the core of the offbeat alt-rock group Ween, Dean (a.k.a. Mickey Melchiondo) pays constant tribute to his Hendrix influences by primarily rocking a Strat onstage. The Frankensteian Strat's cavity has a '57 route and has a dowel cut in half lengthwise glued to the outside wall to receive the extra screw hole for a '62 or later pickguard. It was refinished Dakota red in the early '90s. And its neck plate dates to 1962. The guitar has a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails pickup in the bridge and Fender Lace Sensors in the middle and neck positions."

BAD co-founder Leo Williams holds down the bass line on his Gibson Ripper bass.

Maps and Atlases bassist Shiraz Dada focuses on his tapping technique on his Music Man Sting Ray Bass.

Multi-instrumentalist Fred Abbott wielded a Tele for his Noah and the Whale guitar parts. Abbott also contributes keys to the bandуs lineup.

"Black Lips put on an active show packed with periodic grossout moments, including guitarist Cole Alexander spitting on the back of his guitar, then letting it drip back into his mouth. Alexander did his dirty work on an Eastwood Airline Twin Tone guitar with Bigsby, and promptly smashed the axe to close the set."

Guitarist Brian Case belts out vocals for his hometown crowd while complimenting van Herick's riffs on his Fender Jazzmaster.

"MMJ frontman Jim James gets caught up in a tune as he contributes capoуd chords via his 2008 Breedlove Revival 000. The custom guitar has an Adirondack spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and custom owl inlay on the headstock."

"Hip hop/soul artist Cee Lo Green surrounded himself with Scarlet Fever, a band of lovely ladies clad in S&M-inspired clothes. Happily, they also knew their way around their instruments. Guitarist Sharon Aguilar took to the stage with her main guitar, an American Deluxe Strat with a Seymour Duncan Custom Stack Plus STK-S6 in the neck, Cool Rails in the middle, and George Lynch Screaminу Demon in the bridge. She told PG, рSplitting the Cool Rails and George Lynch makes for an awesome sound for funky rhythms.с Aguilar plugged her Strat into an ENGL Steve Morse signature head."

"Looking dapper in a three-piece suit and Jazz Bass, Tom Blankenship held down the low end for MMJ's 20-song set, culminating in an epic version of their hit ""One Big Holiday."""

"Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter got into the zone with his custom 8-string ESP guitar which features EMG 808 pickups. The guitar's top features photos of Stephen's friends and family he misses when out on the road. For amps, he used two EL34 100/100 Power Amps that powered two Marshall 1960 4x12 stereo cabs. And for added low-end, Carpenter uses a ISP Technologies subwoofer so he can feel the lowend rumble his knees. His pedalboard includes stompboxes from MXR, Z. Vex Effects, Dunlop, TC Electronic, and the the board was wired by Custom Audio Electronics' Bob Bradshaw."

The Man some hope with their stolen gear situationяthe band lost all of their gear in 2009, but they were lucky enough to have it located and returned. Among the lost-and-found items was frontman Charlie Finkуs main guitar, this 1963 Fender Jaguar. "
