The Winter NAMM show is supposed to be an industry-only event thatā€™s closed to the public. But when it comes to the actual attendees, there seems to be a generous definition to the phrase ā€œindustry-only.ā€ They come in packs and tribes and oftentimes they dress up so that fellow tribe members will know them. The metal heads are well represented, as are the hipsters, the hippies, and the just plain hip. They arrive, show off, and bond. They also seem to laugh a lot. Here they are!

The king of prog rockā€™s low end discusses his storied career and how he approaches both bass and Chapman Stick, his tenure with King Crimson and Peter Gabriel, his creative relationship with guitarists and drummers, his new album Bringing It Down to the Bass, and, of course, the much-anticipated upcoming BEAT Tour with Adrian Belew, Steve Vai, and Toolā€™s Danny Carey.

Thereā€™s a good reason why Tony Levin has played with many of the worldā€™s most thrillingly creative musiciansā€”a list that includes Peter Gabriel, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Paul Simon, Bill Bruford, Manu KatchĆ©, David Torn, Tom Waits, Warren Zevon, Richard Thompson, Allan Holdsworth, David Bowie, Vinnie Colaiuta, Bryan Ferry, and more.
