For nearly 30 years, these alt-rock pioneers have created gristly tones full of attitude and angst. Find out how guitarist Kelley Deal and bassist Josephine Wiggs craft their signature tones.

In prep for Lollapalooza 1994, The Breeders painted much of their gear gold. Today, Kelley Deal is still playing the same 100-watt Marshall JCM 900 head from that tour. Other than replacing the tubes, the amp is all stock and plugged into an Ampeg 4x12.
