Godin Introduces the Montreal Premiere

The Godin Montreal Premiere is a thinline, semi-hollow body electric and the latest addition to the brand’s Signature Series.

Montreal, Canada (October 29, 2012) -- Godin Guitars has added a thinline, semi-hollow electric guitar to their lineup of Canadian-made instruments. Here are the details from their press release:

Montreal based Godin Guitars is proud to introduce its latest 6-string creation; an innovative, stunning beauty that is only equaled by its sonic prowess…The Godin Montreal Premiere.

The Godin Montreal Premiere is a thinline, semi-hollow body electric and the latest addition to the brand’s Signature Series. It features a Canadian wild cherry top, back and sides, with an innovative spruce “breathe-through” carved core. This unique feature promotes free airflow through the interior center block, in turn, making the Montreal Premiere a supremely resonant and vibrant guitar. “Over two years in the making, the insides of the Montreal Premiere are what make it so special. Its breathe-through core is truly the soul of this guitar. It’s so alive and has a spirit all its own. You have to play it to believe it,” says Godin’s Sales & Marketing Manager, Mario Biferali.

The guitar’s resonance is harnessed by a pair of Custom Godin Humbucker pickups, delivering a boatload of serious rock & blues tones. A no-nonsense set up, comprised of a 3-way toggle switch along with volume & tone knobs, control the overall sounds. Other features include a 24 ¾” scale, mahogany set-neck with rosewood fingerboard, double-bound binding, high-gloss custom polished finish, contoured high-gloss headstock with high-ratio vintage style tuners, and ResoMax bridge system by Graphtech with stop tailpiece. Color options include: Natural HG, Trans Red HG, Trans Black HG and Sunburst HG.

A Godin Montreal Premiere with Bigsby® B70 tremolo option is also available. The Bigsby® model features a tune-o-matic style bridge with roller saddles and Trans Red HG finish.

The Godin Montreal Premiere starts at a suggested US list price of $1795.00 and is now available to order.

The session ace’s signature model offers a wide range of tones at the flip of a switch … or five.

Hello and welcome back to Mod Garage. Not long ago, I came home late from a band rehearsal, still overly excited about the new songs we played. I got myself a coffee (I know, it's a crazy procedure to calm down) and turned on the TV. I ended up with an old Bonanza episode from the ’60s, the mother of all Western TV series. Hearing the theme after a long time instantly reminded me of the great Al Caiola, who is the prolific session guitarist who plays on the song. With him in mind, I looked up the ’60s Epiphone “Al Caiola” model and decided I want to talk about the Epiphone/Gibson Tone Expressor system that was used in this guitar.

Embracing the idea of an acoustic flattop made with anything other than wood can, understandably, be tricky stuff. There’s a lot of precedent for excellent-sounding acoustics built with alternative materials, though. Carbon-fiber flattops can sound amazing and I’ve been hooked by the sound and playability of Ovation and Adamas instruments many times.
