Michael Kelly Guitars Unveils the Hybrid Special 10th Anniversary Model

A simple three-way switch allows the player to quickly shift from humbuckers to acoustic or a blend of both.

Clearwater, FL (June 2, 2017) -- They say that two is better than one and for Michael Kelly Guitars, one guitar model with two distinct tones has proven that point for 10 years. To mark the decade anniversary of the Hybrid Special, an electric guitar with integrated acoustic tones, the company proudly introduces the Hybrid Special 10th Anniversary model. Only 210 of these guitars will be produced and sold globally. And while the specs faithfully follow the core design that has stood the test of time, this guitar features a distinct aesthetic of its own.

When the Hybrid Special was initially designed, the team at Michael Kelly set out to create an ideal gig guitar that could serve two purposes. This was achieved with a simple three-way switch that allows the player to quickly shift from humbuckers to acoustic or a blend of both in the middle.

However, practicality is not the only reason the Hybrid Special has stood the test of time; sonic versatility has proven to be its magic. The Hybrid Special 10th Anniversary model is a celebration of that legacy. It’s equipped with Michael Kelly’s Great 8 Mod, which allows players to get a humbucker or single coil tone on each of the two pickups, adding up to 8 great passive pickup tones. Combined with acoustic tones, the sonic options are seemingly endless.

“When players start to discover the tones that they can get when they seamlessly combine acoustic and electric tones, it opens up so many great new things,” said Tracy Hoeft, founder/president of Michael Kelly Guitars. “This has been the most satisfying part of seeing the Hybrid Special succeed. We are excited about players continuing to discover this great instrument.”

Fans of the Hybrid Special and newcomers alike will also note the 10th Anniversary model’s specially designed burl burst color that brightly accents the highly figured burl maple top—a unique departure from the standard spalted maple. Further marking the special occasion, all the hardware on this model has been upgraded to gold.

The Hybrid Special 10th Anniversary guitar joins the series mainstays, the Hybrid Special, Hybrid Special Lefty, and Hybrid 55.
