Roland Announces SY-300 Guitar Synthesizer and Expands Blues Cube Amp Series

The Blues Cube Tour is a stack-style amp with a 100-watt head and 4x10 cabinet, while the Blues Cube Artist 212 is an 85-watt combo equipped with two 12-inch speakers.

Frankfurt, Germany (April 15, 2015) -- BOSS is proud to announce the SY-300 Guitar Synthesizer, a groundbreaking analog-style synth designed to be used with normal guitar pickups. Powered by cutting-edge BOSS technology, the SY-300 allows musicians to play latency-free polyphonic synth sounds with any guitar, with no special pickup needed. Users can also process their regular guitar sound with the SY-300’s synth parameters and effects to achieve a limitless range of unique tones.

With the SY-300, BOSS presents an all-new approach to guitar synthesis that unlocks an extraordinary world of sound creation for every guitarist. Unlike other products that require a special GK pickup and 13-pin cable to access synth voices, the SY-300 can be used with any guitar or bass via a standard 1/4-inch cable. It also integrates easily with stomps and pedalboard setups, thanks to its compact size and versatile I/O.

Powered by ultra-fast DSP and newly developed innovations from the BOSS engineering team, the SY-300 performs its amazing synth magic in real time, with no lag whatsoever. This delivers a latency-free playing experience that’s a natural extension of the user’s normal guitar, allowing them to play freely and organically without altering their technique in any way.

The SY-300 is equipped with a powerful polyphonic synthesis engine with three separate sections. Just like a keyboard player with a classic analog synth, guitarists have complete creative freedom to build sounds with a full palette of synthesis parameters, including different wave shapes, filter/amp controls, and LFOs. There’s even a step sequencer (with tap tempo control) for creating dynamic melodies and arpeggios by playing a single note. And with the cool Blender function, users can mix and match synth settings from other patches to discover new sounds instantly.

Beyond its synth voices, the SY-300’s synth engine can also be used to process a normal guitar sound to create an endless supply of unique textures. Users can apply synth filters, change attack and decay characteristics, and create cool dynamic movement with the LFOs and step sequencer.

The SY-300 also includes powerful multi-effects to enhance both synth and straight tones for maximum impact. Four simultaneous effects engines are available, each packing a number of effects types including overdrives and distortions, Slow Gear, Isolator, Slicer, and many others. Some types can perform two effects at once, such as chorus and delay or delay and reverb.

With its graphic LCD display, three assignable footswitches, and dedicated on/off footswitch, controlling the SY-300 while performing is simple and intuitive. Two external footswitches or an expression pedal can also be connected for even more real-time control if needed. There are 70 preset patches that are ready to play, plus 99 user patches for storing custom sounds.

The SY-300’s versatile I/O provides seamless integration with any setup. The Thru output can send the dry guitar sound to an amp or pedals, or be used along with the Return jack as an effects loop. Dual output pairs (Main and Sub) offer assignable signal routing options, while MIDI In and Out/Thru jacks are provided for interfacing with switchers, drum machines, and other MIDI gear.

The SY-300 includes a USB audio interface to capture audio tracks directly into music production software on a computer. Via USB, users can also route existing tracks into the SY-300 to “re-synth” sounds using the synth engine and effects to create new sounds for music productions.

The SY-300’s USB connection also enables players to build and organize patches with the dedicated BOSS Tone Studio editor and download new patches from the BOSS Tone Central website.

Roland is pleased to announce the Blues Cube Tour and Blues Cube Artist 212, two new additions to the respected Blues Cube guitar amp series. The Blues Cube Tour is a stack-style amp with a 100-watt head and 4x10 cabinet, while the Blues Cube Artist 212 is an 85-watt combo equipped with two 12-inch speakers. Both amps feature Roland’s acclaimed Tube Logic design, which provides authentic tube tone and touch response with modern advantages like lighter weight and maintenance-free operation.

Going far beyond modeling, Roland’s Tube Logic approach starts by carefully reproducing the inner workings of the revered tweed-era tube amp in every way, including preamp and output tube distortion characteristics, power supply compression, speaker interaction, and much more. Great feel, distortion control with touch and volume, bloom, sparkle, power supply “sag,” and more—everything that players love about a dialed-in vintage tube amp is present in abundance with the Blues Cube.

The Blues Cube Tour is the new flagship in the series, and the most powerful amp in the lineup. Packing 100 big watts, the Tour head provides ample power and headroom for concert-level performing. The companion CAB410 cabinet delivers smooth highs and rich low end at high volumes, offering clear, wide-range sound for any gig. Equipped with four custom 10-inch speakers, the CAB410 provides the classic 4x10 open-back configuration of sought-after vintage combos, but in a convenient standalone cab with reduced size and weight.

The Blues Cube Artist 212 is a dual-speaker combo amp that’s ready for bigger stages. Two custom 12-inch speakers deliver rich, full tone, and 85 watts of power offers clean headroom for punch and authority while performing. The Artist 212 also features reduced size and weight compared to typical 2x12 amps, making it a great choice for gigging players who need the big voice and enhanced projection of a dual-speaker combo.

Both the Blues Cube Tour and Artist 212 are equipped with two independent channels—one voiced for cleaner tones, and the other for crunch. Each channel has its own Boost and Tone switches to shape the character, and the Crunch channel has a variable gain control to dial in a wide range of distortion tones. With the unique Dual Tone mode, players can blend both channels together for more tonal possibilities.

With Tube Logic, the Blues Cube produces the complex output distortion characteristics of a tube amp when the volume is turned up. The Blues Cube’s variable Power Control provides settings of 0.5 W, 15 W, 45 W, and Max, allowing users to enjoy this musical, cranked-up tone while matching the volume to any situation, from recording to rehearsals to nightclub gigs.

Both amps are equipped with high-quality reverb. The Blues Cube Tour head also includes two effects loops for patching in external devices, while the Artist 212 has a built-in tremolo effect and one effects loop. Footswitch jacks are provided for remote control of channel selection and other functions while performing.

The Blues Cube Tour and Artist 212 also feature USB connectivity, making it simple for players to capture record-ready tones directly into their favorite computer recording applications.
