Eminence Unveils the Travis Toy Signature Speaker

A 300 watt, ultra-lightweight speaker designed for pedal steel guitars.

Eminence, KY (July 30, 2015) -- Eminence has teamed up with Nashville session artist and Rascal Flatts sideman Travis Toy to create a 300 watt, ultra-lightweight signature pedal steel guitar speaker.

The 8-ohm Double-T 12 features a tight low end, a midrange bite that can cut through a mix, and detailed high end without being too bright. Toy worked closely with the engineers at Eminence to achieve these characteristics and even managed to pack them all into a 12” speaker that weighs just over 7 lbs – less than half the weight of the speakers he replaced.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to create a signature steel guitar speaker with the amazing engineers at Eminence.” said Toy. “This speaker directly addresses many of the issues I’ve had with existing speaker designs for my entire career. I feel that it’s the perfect modern steel guitar speaker. There’s nothing else like it on the market.”

A deep dive into faux amps, futuristic setups, and how to use modern technology’s powers for good.

The jump between analog and digital gear has never been more manageable. It no longer takes a rack full of outboard gear with a six-figure price tag to help realize not only the tone you have in your head, but the expansive workflows that started to pop up in the early ’80s. We’re now about a decade into the modern era of digital modelers and profilers and it seems like the technology has finally come into its own. “This is really the first time in a while where you can have bar bands playing the exactsame gear as stadium acts,” says Cooper Carter, a Fractal Audio Systems production consultant who has done sound design and rig building for Neal Schon, James Valentine, John Petrucci, and others.
