Dr. Dog’s Scott McMicken

After opening the set on bass, Scott returned home with his dear Silvertone for the number “Broken Heart.” Here’s his thoughts on the rundown instrument: “At Shaky Knees I was playing a ’60s Silvertone 1446 semi-hollowbody with a Bigsby and a short-scale neck. It’s my absolute favorite guitar ever. I’m not a real guitar guru kinda guy but the first time I ever played a 1446 I definitely felt an ‘aha’ moment. It feels great to me and the sound is rich, janky, nuanced, and powerful too. There’s more character and comfort than I’ve ever experienced in any other guitar. To date, it’s definitely been my soulmate of an instrument—it’s pretty and gritty at the same time.”
