Rig Rundown: Lucero

The country-punkers out of Memphis share the roadworthy gear that allows them to seamlessly blend neo-Stax soul and barroom rock 'n' roll.

Venable’s No. 2 is nearly identical to the pink Highway One Tele, but he feels that the pickups in this one are a little hotter and break up at lower volumes. While he does stay pretty loyal to the pink Tele, he has admitted to grabbing this one when he’s feeling extra frisky and wanting to crank it up. Both guitars are strung up with Ernie Ball Slinkys .011–.048 and he uses Dunlop Max-Grip .88 mm picks.

PG’s Chris Kies catches up with Lucero’s Brian Venable, Ben Nichols, and John C. Stubblefield before the band’s first tour date in support of All a Man Should Do at Nashville’s Cannery Ballroom.
