Michael Weiss and Brandon Beaver (above right) hung with PG’s Perry Bean before their show at Nashville’s Mercy Lounge. Weiss and Beaver walk through the axes, stomps, and amps they are using on this tour that celebrates the 15th anniversary of their album, [A-->B] Life.
Weiss’ desert island guitar is this stock 2003 Fender American Standard Telecaster.
When not on his Tele, Weiss borrows his brother Arron’s 2016 Fender Starcaster. Both guitars are strung with Ernie Ball .011s.
After years of blowing through Vox and Marshall amps, Weiss now runs a lone Fender Twin ’65 reissue combo. The Twin feeds an Orange 2x12 cab loaded with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers.
Weiss uses his Twin for a clean platform and gets all the dirt and color from his pedals. His board contains a Boss TU-3, Jim Dunlop Cry Baby wah, Catalinbread Semaphore, Ibanez CS-9, Boss RV-5 Reverb and PS-5 Super Shifter, Old Blood Noise Endeavors Procession and Dark Star, J. Rockett Archer, Walrus Harvester and Iron Horse, Cameltone Electronics Big Stuff, and a TC Electronic Flashback X4. An MXR Iso-Brick and a few proprietary wall warts supply the juice.
Beaver’s No. 1 is this stock 1967 Gibson ES-335.
For something more Fender-ish, Beaver goes with his ’73 Fender Telecaster Deluxe that has been upgraded with Lollar humbuckers.
As a backup, Beaver carries an Epiphone ES-335 Dot. All of his guitars are strung with Ernie Ball .011s. Beaver also uses Dunlop Yellows (.73 mm) picks.
Beaver runs a stock Fender Twin ’64 reissue.
Beaver routes all of his pedals through a RJM Mastermind PBC True Bypass Loop Switcher. His cache of stomps includes a Sonic Research Turbo Tuner ST-300, Origin Effects Cali 76 Compressor, MXR Modified O.D., T-Rex Moller 2 Drive, Walrus Audio Iron Horse Distortion, Old Blood Noise Endeavors Procession, Empress Effects Reverb, Electro-Harmonix POG2, Catalinbread Adineko Oil Can Delay, Strymon TimeLine, and a modded Guyatone Vibrato.
