The progressive metal band’s sultans of shred talk about the gear on The Distance Over Time tour, including John Petrucci’s brand-new Music Man Majesty Series signature models and Myung’s potential 2020 signature bass.

Here’s an earlier JP Majesty signature, made of solid basswood and, obviously, featuring a solid finish—kinetic blue. Petrucci describes it as a “great show-biz guitar,” with a laugh. It changes colors under stage lights. The instrument has the same feature set as the new Tiger Eye, including a mahogany neck. Note the smart placement of the control set, sweeping in an arc that allows the picking hand easy access to all the dials and toggles. That’s a hallmark of Petrucci’s guitar designs. All of his Music Man signature models come in 6- and 7-string editions.
