Rig Rundown: Marilyn Manson

Sure, collectible gear can be important to rock stars, but for this mayhem-filled gig, Paul Wiley and Juan Alderete opt for loudness and durability.

Juan Alderete, bassist for the Mars Volta, Big Sir, Halo Orbit, and a cohost/cofounder of Pedals and Effects on YouTube, now can add Marilyn Manson low-end leader to his resume. A bona fide gear hound and pedal junkie, Juan lets the gig dictate his equipment choices. His main ride for this run is this Warwick Idolmaker 4-string that was modded to have a Nordstrand NP4 P-style pickup. The large switch is to kill his signal for sudden starts and stops, while the smaller toggle illuminates his fretboard so he can have a roadmap when playing on the dark stage. All his basses use Ernie Ball .045–.105 strings and he hammers away with Dunlop 2.0 mm or .73 mm Tortex picks.

Enter to win replicas of Juan's two pedalboards.
