PG’s Chris Kies hung out with Margaret Glaspy before her gig at Nashville’s High Watt where they talked Telecaster versus Harmony Jupiter and what it’s like to graduate from a Fender Champ to a Deluxe Reverb.
While she recorded most of her debut, Emotions and Math, on a Harmony Jupiter Stratotone, Glaspy is now touring with this Danocaster T-style that is on an open-ended loan from boyfriend Julian Lage. She doesn’t tour with a backup and prefers to use D’Addario strings (.011–.049) and D’Addario 1.25 mm extra heavy picks.
A big fan of the mighty Fender Champ—her recording amp of choice—Margaret now travels with a Deluxe Reverb to give her just a bit more headroom and volume as she plays bigger clubs on this tour.
Seen here is her minimal board with only two stomps—aside from the Boss TU-2 Tuner—but she only uses the TC Electronic Spark Mini Booster (for “Love Like This” and also on a cover of a Björk song called “Who Is It”) as she is currently vibing with the Deluxe’s reverb more so than the EHX Holy Grail Nano.
