Fender Debuts the Tele Thinline Super Deluxe

The Corona crew's latest mashup pairs rich-sounding TV Jones Classic pickups with a twist to their semi-hollow Tele design.

Hollywood, CA (August 9, 2018) -- Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) debuted its 2018 electric guitar and bass offerings at Winter NAMM in Anaheim, California.

ā€œFrom the American Original Series and Parallel Universe Collection to the Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster Thinline artist signature series model ā€“ thereā€™s a solid offering for avid guitar players in 2018,ā€ said Justin Norvell, SVP Fender Products. ā€œAmerican Original Series speaks to that player who loves vintage-inspired design and tone. On the other end of the spectrum is Parallel Universe, which celebrates the modular nature of Fender guitars, splicing together DNA from various Fender models to create off-the-wall hybrids. On the artist side, weā€™re excited to have worked with Eric Johnsonā€“one of the most talented guitar players on the planetā€“to create the first semi-hollow Stratocaster. Heā€™s known for having the most detailed, critical standards for his instrumentsā€“and the quality and care is apparent in his second artist signature series model with us.ā€

One of the biggest splashes had to be the introduction of the Parallel Universe Collection that started rolling out in April 2018. The line features hybrid pairings of Fenderā€™s notable guitar and bass models; they celebrate the brandā€™s continued innovation and the tremendous modular capabilities of Fender instruments.

Their newest addition to the Collection is the Tele Thinline Super Deluxe. Step out on stage in style with the elegantly double-bound Tele Thinline Super Deluxe. Limited-edition Western flair meets classic sound in this instrument that manages to be raw and refined at the same time. How? We added a pair of rich-sounding TV JonesĀ® Classic pickups and familiar controls with a twist to our now-classic semi-hollow Tele design and topped it with a stunning finish and silver sparkle pickguard, making old-school cool look new all over again.

Features include:

  • Semi-hollow alder Tele Thinline body with double white binding; lacquer finish; ā€˜70s Tele Thinline silver sparkle pickguard.
  • American Professional ā€œDeep Cā€-shaped neck; 9.5ā€-radius rosewood fingerboard

In our third installment with Santa Cruz Guitar Company founder Richard Hoover, the master luthier shows PG's John Bohlinger how his team of builders assemble and construct guitars like a chef preparing food pairings. Hoover explains that the finer details like binding, headstock size and shape, internal bracing, and adhesives are critical players in shaping an instrument's sound. Finally, Richard explains how SCGC uses every inch of wood for making acoustic guitars or outside ventures like surfboards and art.

We know Horsegirl as a band of musicians, but their friendships will always come before the music. From left to right: Nora Cheng, drummer Gigi Reece, and Penelope Lowenstein.

The Chicago-via-New York trio of best friends reinterpret the best bits of college-rock and ā€™90s indie on their new record, Phonetics On and On.

Horsegirl guitarists Nora Cheng and Penelope Lowenstein are back in their hometown of Chicago during winter break from New York University, where they share an apartment with drummer Gigi Reece. Theyā€™re both in the middle of writing papers. Cheng is working on one about Buckminster Fuller for a city planning class, and Lowenstein is untangling Austrian writer Ingeborg Bachmannā€™s short story, ā€œThree Paths to the Lake.ā€
