"Touring in support of Battle Studies in summer 2010, Johnуs entire rig was packed with goodies. The pedals pictured occupy four levels of his Custom Audio Electronics rack. He uses two Eventide TimeFactors, a Boss GE-7 Equalizer, an Ibanez TS-10 Tube Screamer Classic, three versions of the Roger Linn AdrenaLinn Effects Processor (the original, plus an AdrenaLinn II and III), a Korg Toneworks G4 Rotary Speaker Simulator, a Klon Centaur Professional Overdrive, a small Analog Man Comprossor, an original Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal, a Keeley Electronics Katana Clean Boost, an MXR M-108 10-band EQ, and a Way Huge Aqua-Puss Analog Delay. The entire rackmount system is powered by a Custom Audio Electronics System Power Supply."

Over three-and-a-half years after Randall Smith sold Mesa/Boogie to Gibson, Smith has completed his time with Gibson as the brand’s master designer and pioneer. Through his ground-breaking work at Mesa/Boogie, Smith was responsible for innovative modifications that gave small amplifiers more input gain, making them much louder, as well as creating an all-new high-gain distorted guitar tones.
